Dionne Warwick At Home With You – Virtual

Dionne Warwick needs little introduction. A legend, a superstar, a household name for more than 60 years!

At 80 years young and with an illustrious career she has firmly established herself as music royalty. With her recent coronation as the Queen of Twitter, she remains as relevant today as the day she started on this incredible journey 8 decades ago.

During the pandemic Dionne experienced many new ways of communicating with her fanbase and audience either via Facebook, YouTube, Instagram or Twitter. The next natural step was to stream Dionne in concert and make it available across the globe.

From the comfort of your own armchair join ‘Dionne at Home with You’…a magical journey through her music, interspersed with songs from her unimpeachable songbook and anecdotes from a lifetime of song.

Peggy Seeger – Virtual

-

Peggy Seeger – singer, songwriter, feminist, icon, Ewan MacColl’s partner and muse – is the undisputed queen of folk and political song. Celebrating the release of her remarkable new album, ‘First Farewell’, Peggy Seeger performs her very first live gig since the pandemic.

Alongside her son Calum MacColl, Peggy makes a welcome return to Cecil Sharp House – the iconic home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society. Described by The Times as ‘the spiritual home of English traditional music’, this special building has been devoted to folk music and dance from the day it opened 91 years ago. It feels like folk has permeated the actual fabric of the building.

Peggy Seeger wrote recently: ‘Cecil Sharp House has been in my life for 64 years. I arrived for the first time in Britain in 1956, met Ewan MacColl and within a week he was taking me to his favourite haunt in Camden Town. We turned up day after day, week after week, surfing recordings in the Cecil Sharp House archive and poring over anthologies in the library.’

Join Peggy and Calum (an exceptional musician in his own right and the producer of ‘First Farewell’), for a glorious evening of up-close performance and celebration of live music. Expect to hear songs from across Peggy’s long career, songs from the new album and plenty of relaxed family banter.

Jefferson County Dairy Parade

-

Bring on the tractors! The Jefferson County Dairy Parade is back this year after a cancellation last year due to the pandemic.

Jefferson County Agricultural Coordinator Jay Matteson says the parade will be Friday, June 4th at 7 PM starting at Watertown High School.

The theme this year: “This milk is for you!”

The idea is to thank first responders who have worked so hard through the pandemic.

The parade will have dairy princesses, fire trucks, and hopefully, they say, marching bands.

The catch there is there cant be air instruments, like trumpets and tubas, due to particle spread.

Parade organizers ask that spectators mask up and stand a cow’s-length apart.

Covering the Cape with quilts

On June 12 and 13th, the village of Cape Vincent will be showcasing the joy quilting brings to life. After the last year’s challenges, the quilters of the village and town will be “Covering the Cape” with quilts. Quilts of all kinds, colors and origins will be hung on clotheslines, front porches and fences welcoming everyone to share this happy event. There will be no maps, prizes, no limit on the number of quilts that can be displayed; they may be heirlooms or made this past winter or years ago.

The art of quilting has persevered throughout the depression, two world wars, loss of loved ones and COVID 19. Quilters have fashioned quilts to celebrate marriages, births, retirements and special events in history. The art of quilting has been passed down through the generations, handmade or machine made, using scraps, new fabrics, custom dyed and hand painted textiles. Many a wedding dress, christening gown or prom dress has adorned memory quilts.

On Saturday June 12 and Sunday June 13 feel free to stroll or drive through charming Cape Vincent and enjoy this enduring American art form. There’s no charge and some of the quilters will be front porch sitting where they will share stories of UFO’s (unfinished fabric objects) and favorite patterns. All we ask is PLEASE don’t handle the quilts without permission.

Call Sharon at 315-955-9770 for further information. Plan to spend the day, enjoy a meal in one of the town’s wonderful restaurants and shops right here where the lake and the river meet!

Don’t miss this ever-growing event in Alexandria Bay, featuring performers from across North America!

Schedule: Coming Soon!

You might be asking yourself: what exactly is Buskers? Busking, busker and busk are words that you don’t often hear in the United States. Primarily a British slang, busking is defined as a person who performs in public for donation and possibly came from the Italian buscare, which means “to gain or procure.” Often times, buskers are portrayed as “street musicians,” but can encompass just about anything that a person wants to do publicly (typically for money)

Bill Johnston’s Pirate Days — Alex Bay, 1000 Islands

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS-2021-TBA

Alexandria Bay is the proud home of the famous “Bill Johnston’s Pirate Days.” There are 10 days filled with family fun and special events. Fill your senses with the sound and spectacle when pirate ships attack the village from the St. Lawrence River, as the brave villagers try to stave them off. The air is filled with smoke and the sound of musket fire and cannon, and eventually the villagers succumb as the pirates invade the town. After the Mayor turns over the key to the village to the invading marauders, everyone becomes a pirate.

The Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce, through the hard work of our members, sponsor all of the above events. You are invited to join in the spirit of Pirate Days and dress as a pirate or patriot when attending any or all of these events. All times are subject to change. Please check the event board at the entertainment tent or at the Chamber office at (315) 482-9531. Most events are free and for the enjoyment of the public.
