David began studying guitar at age thirteen and eventually enrolled in Columbia University as a musicology major. His sensitive and versatile approach to guitar-playing earned him jobs playing the Village "basket houses" for tips, the occasional paying gig and employment as a backing musician for Tom Paxton, Jerry Jeff Walker and Rosalie Sorrels. He became a first-call, "hired gun" guitarist for recording sessions ultimately playing on hundreds of records by artist including Bob Dylan, Link Wary, The Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson and Carly Simon. Bromberg's material, based in the folk and blues idioms, continually expanded with each new album to encompass bluegrass, ragtime, country and ethnic music. By the mid-70's the David Bromberg Big Band included horn players, a violinist and several multi-instrumentalists. His 1971 debut included The Holdup, a songwriting collaboration with former Beatles George Harrison.

Raw, soulful and with plenty of swagger, Town Mountain has earned raves for their hard-driving sound, their in-house songwriting and the honky-tonk edge that permeates their exhilarating live performances, whether in a packed club or at a sold-out festival. They have performed opening shows with Railroad Earth, Peter Rowan, Hard Working Americans, Greensky Bluegrass, Yonder Mountain String Band, Hackensaw Boys, Ralph Stanley and his Cinch Mountain Boys, The Del McCoury Band, The Seldom Scene, The Infamous Stringdusters, Bobby Hicks, The Steep Canyon Rangers and Jim Lauderdale. The hearty base of Town Mountain's music is the first and second generation of bluegrass spiced with country, old school rock'n'roll and boogie-woogie. It's what else goes into the mix that brings it all to life both on stage and on record and reflects the group's wide-ranging influences -  from the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia and the ethereal lyrics of Robert Hunter, to the honest, vintage country of Willie, Waylon and Merle.

A celebration of cross-border friendship at the site of two military battles between them back in the War of 1812. Picturesque Sackets Harbor, New York, with its white picket fences and modern open-air waterfront restaurants celebrates its Canadian neighbors each year during this old fashioned mid-summer celebration. Join in the fun waving U.S. and Canadian flags during the parade before dancing to live music in the pavilion against the Lake Ontario backdrop. Visitors are treated to throwback events such as an “old time” baseball game and soapbox derby races. It all happens in historic Sackets, which boasts a vibrant and popular battlefield and interpretive buildings plus downtown architecture that dates back to the early 19th century. History buffs can tour historic military cemeteries – with plots dating back to those local battles – as well as the former military barracks property that includes an old stone lookout tower.

Our Political Divisions Today: An Historical Perspective This free public lecture at the Sackets Battlefield site’s barn is Thursday July 23th at 7pm. Visiting historian and author Donald Hickey examines stages in our American history when the country was deeply divided (including the early national period), what these times had in common, and how, except for 1861, the nation’s citizens managed to navigate through the difficult eras to preserve the nation. He closes his talk with a look ahead at the 2020 election. Don Hickey is an award-winning author and professor of history at Wayne State College in Nebraska. He is best known for his book: The War of 1812: A Forgotten Conflict (Bicentennial edition, 2012). His newest book in print is: Tecumseh’s War: The Last Great Indian War.
