This past spring, the Sackets Harbor Battlefield SHS sponsored a “readings and discussion” series on a Civil War theme, which encouraged casual discussions among the participants, thus enriching an understanding of our nation’s history.
This autumn, the battlefield is offering a follow up series which takes place up to where the Civil War topic left off. The new series will cover the Reconstruction Era postwar legacies, Westward expansion and the Native Americans, early 20th century rise of economic power impact on society, and the United States growing presence in the world. Our local history will weave in and out of these discussions. The readings are free hand-outs, short primary documents.
Jefferson Community College history instructor Josh Conale guides the discussions with the assistance from JCC’s former president and history instructor, John W. Deans.
They will occur on Tuesday evenings at 7 pm. The scheduled dates are September 12, 19, 26. and October 17th.
The meetings will take place at the Union Hotel building located at West Main Street in the village of Sackets Harbor. This is a an ADA accessible building.
