Marinas and Private Boating

No 1000 Islands tradition runs deeper than fishing and pleasure boating. For more than a century, visitors have ventured onto these crystal-clear waters in search of prized sportfish or a private afternoon cruise. The region has more than 100 boat launches available to anglers who like to trailer their own boats to this region. While many of those locations are currently off limits, it stands to reason that launches will be among the first assets to reopen …and not a moment too soon! Our many marinas offer ramps, bait and tackle, and fuel for successful outings. Be sure to check-in frequently with your favorite marina to see what services are available and when to ensure you get back out on the water as soon as possible!

From the eastern shore of Lake Ontario to the meandering flows of the St. Lawrence River, few fisheries offer the variety and beauty of fishing than those along this international waterway.

Avid and novice anglers have enjoyed 1000 Islands fishing on the St. Lawrence River on their own or with a guide for decades. Lake Ontario and its eastern shore boast the standing New York state records for Chinook, coho and Atlantic salmon.

Just a short drive from these major water bodies lays a secondary river system that includes the 18 Indian River Lakes. The Black River and Sandy Creek are famous for spawning salmon and steelhead in the fall.

Fishing in the 1000 Islands requires a license from New York state or the province of Ontario.
