April is National Poetry Month. Come celebrate it at the Clayton Opera House with The Mayhem Poets. "Let's go see a poetry show." That is a sentence rarely proclaimed and usually responded to with cringes and excuses. The Mayhem Poets are on a mission to change that. Having been dubbed "an amazing ride" by the New York Times, this mind-boggling performance has been described as "The Simpsons meets Malcolm X at a Notorious B.I.G. concert." These theatre-trained, comedically-gifted, lyrical virtuosos seamlessly blend raw elements of hip hop, theatre, improv and stand-up comedy to tell gut-wrenching truths that leave audiences forever changed. The Mayhem Poet's unique approach to spoken word has landed them feature spots on The Today Show and Eyewitness News, after winning 1st place and a grant for 100K in the Microsoft Idea Wins Challenge in 2006. Since then they've been touring internationally from legendary venues like Lincoln Center, the Apollo Theatre and Broadway's New Victory Theatre; to hundreds of universities, local schools of all grades, as well as group homes and correctional facilities. The Band of Heathens are an American Rock and Roll band from Austin, Texas. Their first recording, Live from Momo's, brought the band national attention and they were voted "Best New Band" at the 2017 Austin Music Awards. Between 2008 and 2016, the band released five studio albums, four of which went to #1 or #2 on the Americana Radio Albums. The three original principal songwriters, Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist, shared the bill at Momo's, an Austin Club. Originally, each singer/songwriter performed his own set. However, they eventually started sharing the stage, and collaborating with bassist Seth Whitney. The Wednesday night series was billed as "The Good Time Supper Club." A misprint in a local paper billed the act as "The Heathens." Drummer John Chipman joined the band in 2007. Keyboardist Trevor Nealon, who played in the studio during the recording of both One Foot in the Ether and Top Hat Crown & The Clapmaster's Son, joined the touring unit in 2011. The current members are Ed Jurdi (vocals, guitars, harmonica, keyboards), Gordy Quist (vocals, guitars, harmonica), Trevor Nealon (keyboards), Richard Milsap (drums) and Jesse Wilson (bass, vocals).

Description
Tom Rush is a gifted musician and performer, whose shows offer a musical celebration...a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been, can be, and will become. Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone, "Tom was not only one of my early heroes, but also one of my main influences." Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor, and in more recent years his Club 47 concerts have brought artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences when they were just beginning to build their own reputations. His distintive guitar style, wry humor and warm, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues. Sponsored by Allan Newell
