Psst…fall is our favorite season in the 1000 Islands. The warm water temperatures, everything is still open but the summer lines are gone, the fall colors and the food…ahh… the food and drinks are so amazing. Check out some of our favorites this fall:
1. New Brew
The Cape Vincent Brewing Company is in its new – and bigger – location on the Cape’s main street, with garage-style doors to let in the autumn breeze, table top games, live music or jump on a guitar and play some tunes and enough taps of in-house beer and food to keep you parked all evening. Who knew Cape Vincent could be this kind of fun? Cheers!
2. The Cider Mill in all the Instagram Pics
The Burrville Cider Mill or just “Burrville – is already open for the season. Intruding on summer a bit but it’s easy to understand when so many people want those apples, cider and warm donuts. If you don’t post a pic of your cider slushie in front of the waterfall that turns the mill, were you really even there? Burrville is open through late November.
3. Distillery of the Year!
Saint Lawrence Spirits in Clayton earned the 2019 title of Distillery of the Year by the New York Distillers’ Guild. NBD. Just kidding…it’s a huge deal and we’re proud of them for the well-deserved honor. Saint Lawrence Spirits uses water from the St. Lawrence River to distill their spirits – how awesome is that – and is located in the historic stone Chateau restaurant and inn overlooking the water. Definitely worth a stop for a sip, a bite and even a stay at New York’s top distillery.
4. Nav’s Popcorn
The only thing more colorful than the concoctions at Nav’s Popcorn is our fall foliage. At Nav’s, their “taste” for adventure knows no limits: dark chocolate drizzles, mint drizzles, jalapeno bits, honey mustard, pickle, sour patch, toffee…not all together of course. Or maybe they are this week. Stop by the shop in Alexandria Bay and find out for yourself; you won’t be disappointed.
5. Wood Boat Cover
Clayton’s Wood Boat Brewery is a great success story. Immediately popular for its hand-crafted beers and delicious pizza, Wood Boat has been fine-tuning its operation and this year extended cover to its patio, giving beer lovers a bit more comfortable place to snack and sip outdoors. Check it out.
6. Just Scratching the Surface
The truth is fall is probably the top time to enjoy a taste of the 1000 Islands. Our wineries, distilleries and breweries offer lots of yummy fall flavors and almost all of our restaurants stay open through mid October and there’s just something about a warm meal with a cool breeze coming in off the lake or river that makes it just a bit more magical.
